Simon Erdei

Hungarian conductor Simon Erdei is currently based in Vienna, where he is pursuing advanced studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Professor Mark Stringer.
Recent engagements include assisting conductor Martin Rajna at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl and at the Hungarian State Opera. His collaborations have also extended to Neue Oper Wien, and the Johann Strauss Anniversary Festival.
As a conductor, he has led the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Sopron Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, the Plovdiv Opera Orchestra, and the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, among others. In 2025, he served as Musical Director for Medea, a newly curated pasticcio opera production organized by the Department of Vocal Studies and Music Theatre at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
He began his formal piano studies in Sopron, continued at the Győr Conservatory, and later at the Conservatorio di Milano. In addition, a lifelong engagement with choral singing has significantly shaped his musical development, with conductors Zoltán Kocsis-Holper and Salamon Kamp exerting a profound influence on his artistic outlook.
In 2023, he was awarded third prize at the 4th International Conducting Competition in Cascais. His artistic profile has been further refined through masterclasses with esteemed conductors including Alain Altinoglu, Sian Edwards, Ekhart Wycik, Michalis Economou, and Gregory Vajda.
